The History of King Farm

Not so long ago, King Farm was a fruitful 430-acre dairy farm situated in Rockville, Maryland, between I-270 and Rt. 355 in central Montgomery County, and was owned by the heirs of W. Lawson King. King Farm Associates purchased the farm in 1995, and went to work designing a unique, attractive, people-friendly neighborhood. The first homes in King Farm were completed in 1997.

King Farm is now an award winning, Neotraditional community that, by design, invites its residents to work, shop, and play close to home.

Working at King Farm

Irvington Centre is the 90-acre office complex located in King Farm, and offers what its developers describe as, "an urban atmosphere in a suburban setting."

King Farm's busy retail area, known as the Village Center, also provides work opportunities to residents.

Residents who work outside of King Farm have quick access to the Shady Grove Metro station via the King Farm Shuttle service, a bus that also stops at the Village Center , Irving Centre, and throughout the residential neighborhoods, free of charge.

Shopping at King Farm

Centrally located just a short walk from all of King Farm's residences, the Village Center houses a beautiful, full-service Safeway complete with a Starbucks outlet, eight restaurants, a beer and wine store, a florist, a video rental store, several hair stylists, dental and doctor's offices, and other retail shops.

Playing at King Farm

King Farm Community Center , the jewel of the neighborhood's recreational space, offers residents access to a large meeting area, a gym, and a spacious outdoor pool. Further, it is home to King Farm's youth swim team. A second, similar community center is being built in northern King Farm soon.

Watkins Pond, a 12-acre park developed in King Farm by the City of Rockville, features tennis courts, basketball courts, a softball field, two playgrounds, and several picnic areas.
